Connectivity Guide for Mauritius
byCharles McQuainMauritius has three mobile networks: my.t, run by Mauritius Telecom and the largest (it was branded Orange until 2017); Emtel; and CHiLi, from MTML. my.t has had island-wide 5G since June 2024, and Emtel launched 5G in 2023 and has been expanding it. CHiLi is 4G only. Most travel eSIMs that name a network use Emtel, and a few use my.t.
The main island is small and well covered, so you can expect reliable data in Port Louis, Grand Baie, Flic en Flac, Belle Mare, and around Le Morne. Rodrigues, the smaller island about 600 km east, has 4G as well, but coverage there is thinner and depends on the network, so check before relying on it.
Uber arrived in March 2026 through a local partnership branded Taxi by ala-lila, and Yugo is the main local taxi app; many visitors simply use resort transfers or pre-booked taxis. WhatsApp is the usual way to reach drivers, tour operators, and restaurants.
Visiting Rodrigues Too?
Most Mauritius trips stay on the main island, where coverage is excellent. If you're adding Rodrigues, expect thinner coverage and download offline maps before you fly over.
