Connectivity Guide for Namibia
byCharles McQuainNamibia has two main mobile networks: MTC, the larger with the wider coverage, and Telecom Namibia, whose mobile service is known as TN Mobile. Fewer travel eSIMs sell a Namibia plan than in most countries, and several of the plans that exist run on 3G with small data sizes, so check the list below before assuming your usual provider covers it.
Signal is good in Windhoek, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, and other towns, and along parts of the main roads. It drops off quickly beyond that. In Etosha, expect service only around the main rest camps (Okaukuejo, Halali, and Namutoni), not on game drives. Sesriem, the gateway to Sossusvlei, has weak service at best, and the Skeleton Coast, Kaokoland, and the far south have large areas with none.
Most visitors self-drive, so offline maps matter more here than almost anywhere else. Windhoek has a local ride-hailing app, LEFA, but you won't find ride apps much beyond the capital. Lodges often have Wi-Fi, though it can be slow and limited to common areas.
Plan for Long Stretches With No Signal
No eSIM can fix Namibia's empty spaces. Download offline maps for your entire route, save lodge bookings and directions, and share your itinerary with someone before you leave a town. Use each town stop to refresh what you need.
