Your Guide to eSIM Connectivity in Spain
byCharles McQuainI've traveled to Spain and the mobile coverage was never an issue — whether I was in Barcelona, Madrid, or smaller cities. Movistar, Vodafone, and Orange have invested heavily in 5G across major cities, and even places like Valencia, Seville, and Bilbao have strong LTE. Spain is one of those countries where you can just grab an eSIM plan and not think about it.
If you're island-hopping between the mainland and the Balearics (Mallorca, Ibiza) or the Canary Islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria), EU roaming rules mean your Spain or EU plan works everywhere with no surcharges. One plan covers the whole country, islands included.
Spain is also a great base for multi-country trips. With an EU regional eSIM, you can cross into Portugal, hop to France, or take a ferry to Morocco without switching plans. If you're staying Spain-only, a country-specific plan will save you a few bucks per GB.
Island Coverage
Both the Balearics and Canary Islands have full 4G coverage and growing 5G in main towns. Since they're Spanish territory, all Spain and EU plans work at domestic rates — no roaming surprises. Movistar tends to have the best reach on smaller islands.
