Staying Connected Across Thailand
byCharles McQuainThailand was one of my favorite trips, and the good news is that connectivity there is excellent. AIS, DTAC, and TrueMove H have all rolled out 5G in Bangkok and major tourist areas. Even on the islands, I've heard from travelers that speeds are solid. The whole country is well set up for eSIM-equipped tourists.
Thailand is also one of the cheapest places in the world for eSIM data. Plans start under $5 for short trips, which is wild when you compare it to what carriers charge for roaming. If you're island-hopping or doing the classic Bangkok-Chiang Mai-islands circuit, grab a plan with enough data to last your whole trip — you'll be using it constantly for Grab rides, Google Maps, and posting photos.
Island Coverage: What to Expect
Koh Samui, Phuket, and Koh Phangan all have solid 4G from all three carriers. Smaller islands like Koh Lipe or Koh Chang can be spottier — AIS tends to have the best reach on remote islands. If island connectivity matters to you, look for plans routed through AIS networks.
