My advice: buy slightly more than you think you'll need. The per-GB cost drops enough at higher tiers that it's usually worth upgrading — and it saves the hassle of topping up mid-trip. Network quality varies by destination since Airalo sources from different local carriers in each country. In the popular destinations where most travelers go — Japan, Thailand, Europe, Mexico, Australia — speeds are consistently solid. Less developed markets can be more variable. 5G is available in select countries where the local carrier partner supports it. For typical travel use — maps, messaging, WhatsApp calls, occasional video — 4G LTE is plenty fast and more universally available.
