Connectivity Guide for Croatia
byCharles McQuainCroatia's mobile network is operated by three carriers: Hrvatski Telekom (T-Mobile/Deutsche Telekom subsidiary), A1 Croatia, and Telemach (formerly Tele2). Hrvatski Telekom has the widest overall coverage, particularly along the Adriatic coast and on the islands. As an EU member state, Croatia benefits from EU roaming regulations, which means many European eSIM plans include Croatia at no extra cost — making regional plans an excellent option for multi-country trips.
The Dalmatian coast — Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar, Korčula, and Zadar — has strong LTE coverage in towns and along major coastal roads. Croatia's islands generally have coverage in port towns and villages, but signal can drop on remote beaches and hiking trails in the island interiors. Plitvice Lakes National Park has coverage at the entrances and main facilities, though it can be spotty on the longer trail loops. Zagreb and inland cities have excellent connectivity.
Having mobile data in Croatia is particularly useful for navigating the coastal roads (which can be winding and confusing), booking ferries between islands via the Jadrolinija app, and finding the many small beaches and coves that don't appear prominently on signage. During peak summer season (July-August), popular areas can see network congestion.
EU Roaming Makes Croatia Easy
Since Croatia joined the EU, it is covered by EU roaming regulations. If you are already buying an eSIM for another EU country (France, Italy, Spain, etc.), check whether your plan includes Croatia — many European regional plans cover all EU nations at no additional cost, which can save you from buying a separate plan.
