Connectivity Across the Greek Islands and Mainland
byCharles McQuainGreece's mobile network is operated by Cosmote (OTE Group/Deutsche Telekom), Vodafone Greece, and Wind Hellas. Cosmote has the widest coverage, particularly important for island hopping where smaller carriers may have gaps. Athens, Thessaloniki, and major islands like Crete, Rhodes, and Corfu all have strong 4G.
The Greek islands are the main attraction, and coverage varies by island size and popularity. Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Rhodes, Corfu, and Zakynthos all have reliable 4G from all carriers. Smaller Cycladic islands, remote Dodecanese, and less-visited Sporades islands may have weaker coverage, especially in mountainous interiors.
As an EU member, Greece is covered by EU roaming regulations. If you're island-hopping on a multi-country Mediterranean trip (Greece, Italy, Croatia), a European regional plan eliminates the need to manage separate eSIMs. For Greece-only beach holidays, a country-specific plan will be cheaper.
Ferry WiFi Is Terrible — Use Your eSIM
Greek inter-island ferries typically have weak, expensive onboard WiFi. Your eSIM will maintain 4G signal for most ferry routes between major islands, losing signal only in open-sea stretches. Track your ferry's real-time position on the Ferryhopper app while you sail.
