Connectivity Guide for the Netherlands
byCharles McQuainThe Netherlands has three major mobile operators: KPN (the former state telecom and largest network), T-Mobile Netherlands, and VodafoneZiggo. All three have deployed nationwide 4G/LTE and have been expanding 5G coverage, particularly in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, and Eindhoven. The Netherlands consistently ranks among the top European countries for mobile broadband speed and coverage.
Thanks to the country's small size and high population density, mobile coverage in the Netherlands is essentially universal. Whether you are cycling through the tulip fields, visiting the Keukenhof, exploring the Wadden Islands, or navigating Amsterdam's canal ring, you will have strong LTE signal. Even on trains between cities (the NS rail network), coverage is reliable throughout your journey. There are virtually no dead zones in the Netherlands for everyday travel.
As an EU member state, the Netherlands is covered by EU roaming regulations. If you are traveling through multiple European countries, a regional EU eSIM plan will cover the Netherlands alongside other EU nations — often the best value for multi-stop European trips. For Netherlands-only visits, the excellent WiFi in cafés, hotels, and even trains means your data usage may be lower than expected.
EU Roaming Is Your Best Friend
The Netherlands is covered by EU roaming rules. If your European trip includes other EU countries, a single EU-wide eSIM plan will cover the Netherlands plus all your other stops. This is almost always cheaper and simpler than buying individual country plans. Check the country list on your eSIM provider to confirm coverage.
