Our Verdict
TooSim has a feature I wish more providers would copy: your plan validity doesn't start ticking until you actually connect at your destination. That alone makes it worth a look. Add in 180+ country coverage, free hotspot on every plan, 5G in supported markets, and pricing starting around $3.99/GB, and you've got a practical mid-tier option for travelers who like to plan ahead.
TooSim is developed by Gem Labs out of Limassol, Cyprus. They launched around 2023, so they're still relatively new, but they've expanded quickly to 180+ countries with local, regional, and global plan options. Pricing starts as low as $3.99 for 1GB, putting them in the budget-friendly tier alongside providers like Nomad and aloSIM.
The feature that stood out to me when I was researching TooSim for this site is their flexible validity system. Unlike most providers where your plan timer starts immediately upon activation, TooSim plans only begin their countdown when you first use data at your destination. That means you can install your eSIM days or even weeks before your trip without losing any of your plan duration. It's one of those small details that makes a real difference for the kind of person who likes to have everything set up before they leave home.
Every TooSim plan includes free hotspot/tethering with no restrictions, which is a genuine differentiator. Many competitors either charge extra for hotspot or restrict it on cheaper plans. TooSim also supports 5G where available, connecting through major carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile in the US, and Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone in Europe.
The trade-offs are typical of newer providers: no phone number or SMS capability (data only, so use WhatsApp or FaceTime for calls), and unlimited plans are only available by request rather than as standard self-serve options. Support runs through email, WhatsApp, and a contact form rather than a traditional live chat widget on the website.
When to Choose TooSim
TooSim is ideal for budget-conscious travelers who want solid coverage without overpaying. The flexible validity, free hotspot, and competitive per-GB pricing make it especially strong for short trips where you want to pre-install and not worry about activation timing.
Pricing & Value
TooSim offers local plans for individual countries, regional plans covering areas like Europe (36+ countries), Asia, and the Americas, plus a global eSIM option. Local 1GB plans with 7-day validity cost $3.99 across much of Europe ($5.99 in Japan and Thailand), scaling up to larger packages like 20GB or 50GB for longer trips.
Per-GB pricing is competitive with the market leaders. For popular destinations like Japan, Thailand, and European countries, TooSim typically falls in the mid-range between budget options like aloSIM and premium providers like Holafly. The regional plans offer particularly good value if you are visiting multiple countries in the same area.
Coverage & Network Quality
With 180+ countries covered, TooSim has broad reach though not quite as extensive as Airalo (200+). Coverage spans local plans for most popular travel destinations plus regional plans that bundle multiple countries together. In the US, TooSim connects through AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and US Cellular. In Europe, major carriers like Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, and Orange provide the backbone.
5G is available in supported markets, though actual 5G speeds depend on your device and local carrier infrastructure. Most plans default to 4G/LTE which provides reliable streaming-quality speeds for the vast majority of travel use cases.
App & Setup Experience
TooSim is available on both iOS and Android. The setup process follows the standard eSIM flow: purchase a plan through the app or web store (app.toosim.com), receive a QR code, and scan it with your phone. Installation takes about 5 minutes, and you can install well in advance of your trip since the data timer does not start until first use.
Top-ups are a weak spot: TooSim's plan pages currently list top-up as not available, so if you run out of data you'll generally need to buy a new plan rather than adding data to your existing one. It's worth sizing your plan with some headroom.
Support & Reliability
TooSim offers support via email, WhatsApp, and a contact form on its website. The absence of a traditional live chat widget on the website is notable, but WhatsApp support can actually be more convenient for travelers since you can message from anywhere without needing to navigate to a website.
As a newer provider, TooSim has fewer third-party reviews compared to established competitors. This isn't necessarily a red flag, but it means less community-verified reliability data. I'll be keeping an eye on user feedback and updating this page as more reviews come in.
